Track 1: Gastroenterology

The study of gastrointestinal tract is called as Gastroenterology. This contains organs from mouth to anus, along the alimentary canal. Experts in this field are called as gastroenterologists. In order to continue healthy digestion, absorption of nutrients, and excretion of waste for further metabolic processes gastroenterologist should understand the normal physiology of the alimentary canal organs.

Track 2: Anatomy of the Gastrointestinal System

To support the metabolic activities the gastro-intestinal system consists of wide range of organs involved in various functioning. GI organs help in step wise breakdown, absorption of nutrients in liver regulated by hormonal system and enzymes. They are also involved in the digestion of food, breakdown and excretion process. GI organs affect the digestive and excretory metabolism of the body in case any abnormality in the functioning.

Any kind of blood loss caused in the GI tract ranging from mouth to rectum is called as gastrointestinal hemorrhage. Gastrointestinal hemorrhage can lead to various other metabolic abnormalities in the body. It is of two types upper gastrointestinal bleeding and lower gastrointestinal bleeding in which upper GI bleeding causes more deadly conditions. It can be diagnosed by blood test or undergoing endoscopy procedure to locate the bleeding location.

The treatment and diagnosis of childhood digestive diseases deals by Pediatric Gastroenterologists. It involves studies and examines of organs like esophageal, gastrointestinal tract, liver, pancreatic, nutritional and other digestive disorders affecting children in early childhood and teenage. Endoscopy, biopsy of vital organs, capsule endoscopy; pancreatic secretion tests and pH probe testing are diagnostics procedures.

Track 5: Gastrointestinal Hormones

Entero endocrine glands situated in lining of stomach by, liver, pancreas and small intestines secretes GI hormones. These help in functioning of the digestive system providing various enzymes needed for it. These hormones are secreted into blood and they moderate the GI tracts enzymes rel ease and secretion processes. These are also synthesized in brain to control switch on-switch off of the other enzymes involved in the digestion system.

Gastrointestinal Pathology is a sub speciality of surgical pathology and it categories neoplasmic and non-neoplasmic diseases of the accessory organs of GI tract. It provides high quality diagnostic histopathology by endoscopic, biopsies and resections of the gastrointestinal and pancreatico-biliary systems.

Track 7: Nutritional Medicine and GI Health

The GI tract is a complex system affected by micro-organisms harming GI micro flora, digestion balance, enzymes functioning.  Mucosal lining of GI tract serves as a protective barrier so that to inhibit the flow of ingested matter from one part to other parts of the body. Once infected it is prescribed to take the nutrient medicines in the natural form (fruits or juices) or in pills format to enhance the metabolic rate of the digestive organs. It is equally important to both men and women as hormonal fluctuation and disease prone activities are similar in both the cases.

GI disorders like functional bowel diseases are prone to American communities especially women. Irritable bowel syndrome (IBS) and inflammatory bowel diseases such as Crohn's disease (CD) and colitis are prominent and some GI disorders can be controlled by diet and medications. Some of the major symptoms of GI disorders are Cramping, abdominal pain, inflammation of the large and small intestine, chronic diarrhea, rectal bleeding and weight loss.

Many diseases of the GI system are being treated with medicinal or non-medicinal ways. Medicinal method includes usage of drug doses to enhance or inhibit the functioning of particular hormone or enzyme. This maintains the activity and acts as catalyst as well as inhibitor based on the type of drug induced. To deal with the GI tract abnormalities Pharmaceutical industries have introduced hundreds of drug doses into the human body.

It discusses the latest research outcomes and technological advancements in the field and brings together leading gastroenterologists, surgeons, physicians, research scholars, students along with industrial and pharma professionals to exchange share their views on critical aspects of gastroenterology research. There have been increases in the incidence of most gastrointestinal disorders in Europe which have major implications for future healthcare provision. Gastrointestinal cancer is the leading cause of cancer death in Europe. Recent studies of market value of GI therapeutics for major diseases in the eight major markets is expected to decrease in value from $6.8 billion in 2012 to $6.6 billion by 2019 forecasts business intelligence provider GBI Research. The major factors currently stabilizing the market include the increasing prevalence of GI diseases, growing awareness of the importance of detecting these diseases early and the availability of effective diagnostics creates an urgent need for organizing this gastroenterologists conference.

Europe is considered as second largest market of gastrointestinal disorders therapeutics. In addition, Asia-Pacific region is the emerging market for gastrointestinal disorders market because of rising incidences of peptic ulcer, ulcerative colitis, irritable bowel syndrome and crohn’s disease. Gastrointestinal cancer is the leading cause of cancer death in Europe.

Physician statistics

Health-care systems vary among countries and we were interested in how this might impact on gastroenterology manpower. The number of gastroenterologists in Canada and compared this with four countries where data were available over the Internet in either French or English. The number of gastroenterologists per 100,000 of the population was 3.9 in the United States, 3.48 in France, 2.1 in Australia, 1.83 in Canada, and 1.41 in the U.K. This variation in number of gastroenterologists was not reflected in the overall number of specialists per 100,000, which was similar in all five countries. Furthermore, the difference in gastroenterology manpower did not correlate with the amount of gross domestic product spent on health care. Countries with a low number of gastroenterologists per 100,000 all had a strong primary-care gatekeeper system, although this observation may be coincidental, as only five countries were studied. Canada had the most equitable distribution of gastroenterologists across the country with only modest differences among provinces. The United States had the most variation in the number of gastroenterologists per 100,000 of the population among states.
